Extreme ownership, effective communication, and adaptability are vital traits for engineers navigating todayβs fast-paced and ever-evolving tech landscape. These qualities are not just valuable; theyβre essential for progressing to a Staff Engineer role, a position that demands both technical excellence and strong leadership.
Right, the better we are at these, the bigger impact we'll have! And the more chances we'll have to get to Staff level. Thanks for amplifying the message Rafa!
Great article, lot of things resonated with me having moved into a similar role at a small company. Do you have an example/template of the one page project status page? Thatβs the piece I find hardest, keeping everyone on the same page at different levels of detail.
Glad to hear that Reece! There is a Technical Specification template available for paid subscribers here: https://newsletter.eng-leadership.com/p/100-discount-code-for-products What I personally like to include in tech spec is the link to the epic where all the tasks are there and also you can take it further and add another column to the requirement and prioritization, which includes the Status. Then you can point people to check the progress there.
Ownership, proactiveness, and execution are essential skills for growing as an engineer. They all help make a significant impact.
And thank you so much for sharing my book, Gregor! Appreciate that a lot! π
Indeed, real multiplying efforts. Of course, my pleasure, congrats on launching it!
