Intro

When I first started with people management, I made many mistakes. Not giving feedback on time was one of them. That resulted in some unwanted behaviors that could be avoided by addressing them earlier.

This gives a few insights into why giving feedback is very important. Let’s talk about that next.

Why should you give feedback?

Giving feedback to direct reports can be daunting, but it’s an important part of coaching and mentoring. Giving feedback helps your report to improve and grow.

Feedback should be given as soon as possible and as frequently as possible. Waiting too long can bring a lot of downsides and consequences. The best way to give feedback is in 1:1 meetings. Don’t wait to give feedback on the performance review meeting. The performance review meeting should be dedicated more to objectives and goals.
