Intro

Resignations are part of every organization. There is no organization where that is not the case. People have various of different reasons for making that decision. As a manager, it’s important to be prepared when it happens and react appropriately. In this article we will go through 3 things:

  • giving a resignation,

  • handling resignations as a manager,

  • What to do when your peer/team member resigns.

Let’s start with the first one.

Giving a resignation

Before giving a resignation, make sure that you firmly make up your mind about it. Let’s define when to give vs. when to not give your resignation.

When not to give a resignation

If you believe that the situation can still improve, make sure to let your manager know about what is not working for you. This is a much better approach than just moving on.

Be open about what is not working and what do you feel like needs to change. This gives you the best chance to make a change. If you don’t see the change, then it’s the right time to move on.
