Intro

When I first started with engineering management, I made many mistakes.

It would be great if somehow I would have been able to avoid these mistakes ahead of time, but we all know that it’s impossible. In our profession - mistakes are part of the job title.

Have I learned through these mistakes? For sure! Have I made some mistakes again? I did!

It’s so interesting how our mind functions. Most people only learn from mistakes if the mistake was truly a bad one.

If you are not 100% focused on doing frequent retrospectives on your mistakes, you will keep jumping into the same mistake next time.

If I could go over my experience again, I would for sure do some things differently, and here is the letter to myself when I first started with engineering management.
